Consider Donating to Support WP Accessibility Day

Donate

Want to help make WordPress Accessibility Day happen? A great way to support the event is to make a donation, which helps us to cover the cost of the accessibility services required to help everyone be able to attend and learn from WP Accessibility Day sessions. Even small donations of $5 can make a big difference!

Why Donate

Our goal this year is to have live captioning in English, American Sign Language Interpretation, and post-event transcription of sessions for accurate captions both before and after the event. We’re exploring options to have live translation of captions into other languages (if funds allow).

Paying for accessibility services is vital to ensure that all people can attend our session and participate as speakers, however, these services can be pricey as they are delivered by people and cannot be automated.

In addition to paying for accessibility services, we would like to offer a small honorarium to our speakers to thank them for donating their time and sharing their knowledge.

We’re planning to bring on sponsors, but also want to invite the community to contribute to the event. If you’re interested in helping to make a great event happen and promote website accessibility, donating is a great way to do it.

Is WP Accessibility Day a nonprofit?

WordPress Accessibility Day is a nonprofit event, but it is not a registered nonprofit organization. The conference was previously run by the WordPress core Accessibility Team through the WordPress Foundation, but this year we’re running it independent of the WordPress Foundation for ease of planning.

Though it’s not a WordCamp, we follow the spirit of WordCamps and we’re organizing the conference with a team of volunteers from across the WordPress community. We’re very transparent about how the event is being organized and our meetings are open to anyone who wants to participate. Contact us to learn more or fill out our volunteer form if you want to volunteer.

Please note, as we’re not a nonprofit organization any donations are unlikely to be tax-deductible.

Who is behind this?

The lead organizers of WordPress Accessibility Day are Amber Hinds and Joe Dolson. Look for our organizer page (coming soon) with more information about our complete organizing team.
