Accessibility: The big picture

Starting out with learning web accessibility can feel overwhelming. There’s a ton of information out there, which is great, but time and again you may find yourself lost or confused; knowing where to start from can greatly help navigate through the learning process. Knowing the big picture and understanding how the various concepts related to each other helps approach the topic.

In this talk Kelin will walk through various concepts concerning web a11y — Basics, Assistive Tools and their usage, Accessibility Tree, ARIA, Semantic HTML, Testing tools and a few tips for developers. He’ll introduce how ARIA translates into user experience and talk about how these topics fit together. By the end of this talk, you’ll have an overall idea about web a11y, and will understand what the term means from the technical perspective.

If you’re a developer, you’ll get an idea about the kind of changes that you will have to incorporate in your thought process and your practices. If you’re a project manager or a tester then you’ll get to see the other side of a11y, the technical side.
