Welcome to WP Accessibility Day, 2022!

A sign in a window reads Welcome Back and has a love heart shape below the words.

Fasten your seatbelts and get ready for the second installment of this epic 24–hour (FREE) online event: WP Accessibility Day, 2022 Happening November 2-3, 2022!

Founded in 2020 by the WP Core Accessibility Team, WP Accessibility Day is led this year by Joe Dolson and Amber Hinds, who carry the torch for a dedicated team of volunteer organizers from different backgrounds and time zones and with one thing in common: We aim to enhance the collective knowledge of accessibility for all WordPressers and provide advice and tools that will allow more and more accessible WordPress websites to be created (or remediated)!

Removing barriers is equality, in action.

It has been a big year, already, for website accessibility — in March, the Department of Justice announced web accessibility guidelines to help state and local governments and businesses open to the public to make sure their websites are accessible to people with disabilities in line with the ADA’s requirements. What this means is that websites now COUNT under the ADA.

The organizing team is gearing up to host an entire 24–hours of accessibility–focused content that will teach, guide, and support us in our pursuit to create websites without barriers. Every person regardless of their disabilities or situation should be able to achieve what they want to achieve online.

Advancing website accessibility, for everyone.

Much has been done, but there is still so much more to do.

We can all take steps to improve the experience for our website visitors with disabilities, and the adjustments we make in our code, visual design, workflow, and processes can benefit all humans! Website accessibility is not to be feared, it’s an approach and a state of mind.

Whether you are already advocating for, designing, or developing accessible WordPress websites, or you are wondering where to start, or what all of this means to you and your work — please join us on November 2-3, 2022.

And please spread the word to your friends all across the globe!

Stay tuned in the coming weeks for our call for speakers, and news about sponsorships and volunteer opportunities.
